Description : Dark finished simple chair with bamboo turning on back spindles and arm rails. Legs have side stretchers on all sides but the front. Condition Report: Good. Complete, sound and stable. Joints are tight, no insect damage, no distortion. With respect to the wood itself, there are countless small nicks, gouges, and scars. With respect to the finish, it is essentially worn off top of the back rails and arms, and scuffed/scraped on the legs, and generally worn throughout.
Commentaires : Windsor chair construction relies upon the use of spindles. Because the spindles of the seat back usually fan out from a curved seat, seating space is ample and comfortable. Windsor chairs originated in England and are named according to the style of their back.
Fonctions : Believed to be owned by John Bingley Garland, owner/operator of the Garland mercantile fishing properties in Trinity, occupant of the Lester-Garland House, and first Speaker of the Newfoundland House of Assembly, 1832.
