Commentaires : | The preface of the book notes that Major Fairbairn's technique was taught to the British army including their commandos and parachute troops, the British Home Guard, and the United States Marine Corps. William Ewert Fairbairn 1885-1960 developed a form of close hand-to-hand combat while working with the Shanghai Military Police. Fairbairn joined the force in 1907 and by 1935 had risen to the position of Assistant Commissioner as well as Chief Instructor in close combat and firearms training. While with the Shanghai Military Police, Fairbairn established the first riot squad, called the Reserve Unit. During World War II, Fairbairn became an instructor for the British military at the Special Training Centre. He taught shooting as well as knife and unarmed combat. The knife issued to British commandos during the war, the Fairbairn-Sykes Fighting Knife, was based on a knife co-created by Fairbairn during his time in Shanghai. Following the war, he outlined his techniques in the books Get Tough and Shooting to Live. |
