| Description : | Bible box: oak; carved; Common Name: Bible Box: Oak; carvedDescription: Dark oak; overhanging flat lid; exterior; varnished; front and 2 sides carved with an overlapping lunette motif; border above and below; top and back plain; centred on front is a metal plate with 2 apertures for lock mechanism; interior: Rough unfinished wood; stuck on walls and lid is beige paper with pictures in black ink of individuals - pictures on lid begin with Charles I and end with Duke of Argyle.Condition: Fair- lid and bottom cracked; nicks throughout; lid attached by wire to reemble cotton pin or snipe hinges (?); and part of lock mechanism missing; only remnants of interior paper except on lid; interior has 2 strips chiseled out of wood; varnished wearing; nail holes stained.Photo No. C108524 |
