Description : Jacket (80.79.1) Mandarin collar, 6.35cm at centre back- free standing. Sleeves are gathered, lightly pulled at shoulder; gathered at shoulder; 2.5cm pleat at the waist with two metal holes and two thread eyes. Back is plain, fitted, not centre seam; two side seams; hand-pleated inverted "V" in the centre back; bow in the centre back at the collar, two satin bows at the edge of front collar; nineteen eyelet holes on the left-hand side with nineteen metal hooks on right. The inner collar of gathered lace 5.08cm wide gibes a ruffle on top edge; tacked on the finely corded band; behind the band, a small lace gathering on the left side between three-layer lace collar and fabric collar is more lace tucked between and tacked down. Same application on right. Detailed lace is attached on the right-hand side; one hook on the shoulder and two on the left side to attach dickie to the right front shoulder. Two bows on the right-hand side with a ribbon and bow on end to hook to the left side.   Inside: ten stays converted with green ribbon, cotton sateen lining, hem and the inner waistband of heavy cotton twill; silk loop at the neck for handing. Cotton lining in sleeves except for taffeta at wrist and collar.  Skirt (80.79.2)  Large pocket set in the back seam, cotton sateen, waist is 59.89cm length in front and 100.33cm center back. Pocket at back is 25.4cm long with a hook at the waist and nine A-line gores. The waistband is bias binding with cotton twill support covered layer. Satin ribbon tacked to the centre of the sleeve to form a pleat. Large bow in back at the centre waist with three ribbons streamed. The waist is heavily gathered at the centre back of the pleat. The lining is a cotton sateen with inner lining, facing a shift of fabric. A ruffle of bias cut with taffeta and machine cut scallops. Edges of hem wide cotton braided cord. Cords in the centre back at seams on an angle. 
Fonctions : Alice fitch m. Rev Donald Grant on June 17, 1896. Alice was the second woman to graduate from Acadia and the First woman to receive her M.A. in 1892. She taught at the seminary from 1885-1886 and 1889 to 1893 and 1906 to 1926. She was the first woman to sit on the senate of Acadia and was appointed by the Alumni. Her daughter, Dr. Marion Grant was dean of women at Acadia for twenty-four years and she also taught psychology. Alice was the first woman to continue to the Athenaeum. She was the principal of Houlton Ladies college from 1893-1895.  Dress donated by Dr. Mauren Grant in 1980. Alice born in New Minas in 1865, graduated with a BA from Acadia in 1885 Marion graduated from Acadia in 1921.
