| Description : | A black and white engagement photograph of Arthur and Mary Harris. The background is rich with a floral display, drapes, animal rug and plant stand. Arthur sits in a chair; Mary on a window ledge. Arthur wears a suit; Mary's dress has long sleeves. Towards the bottom (under the photograph) is printed in pen: 'Arthur and Mary Harris'. | Fonctions : | Arthur and Mary Magrath married in May 1881. Arthur Beveridge Harris (1843-1932) was the only surviving son of Elizabeth (née Molony) (1829-1884) and Captain James Beveridge Harris (1797-1884). He later married Mary Magrath (1859-1954) and they had three children, Annie (1882-1986), Naomi (1883-1968), and Margaret (1887) who died shortly after birth. Arthur helped his father with the daily tasks of maintaining a farm. He inherited the Benares in 1884, upon the death of his father, Captain Harris. In the same decade, both Arthur and Mary received a number of inheritances that made life easier at Benares. Items donated by Barbara Sayers Larson. Barbara Larson is the daughter of Annie Harris (1882-1986) and Beverly Sayers (1882-1976) and granddaughter of Arthur (1843-1932) and Mary (1859-1954) Harris. Barbara was born January 27, 1920 and was the youngest of three children. Barbara and her siblings, Geoffrey Sayers (1907-1997) and Dora Sayers Caro (1915-2004) donated Benares to the Ontario Heritage Foundation in 1969 after inheriting it from their aunt, Naomi Harris (1883-1968). Many of the items donated by Barbara originally belonged to her mother or Aunt Naomi and came from Benares. Barbara lived in the log cabin originally given to her parents by her grandparents at 1723 Birchwood Drive. Barbara still maintains a close tie with Benares and is now living in Kelowna, British Columbia, with her daughter."; Arthur et Mary Magrath Harris se sont mariés en mai 1881. Barbara naît le 27 janvier 1920 et est la cadette d'une famille de trois enfants. Barbara, son frère Geoffrey (1907-1997) et sa soeur Dora Sayers Caro (1915-2004) ont donné la maison Benares à la Fondation du patrimoine ontarien en 1969. Beaucoup d'articles donnés par Barbara avaient jadis appartenu à sa mère ou à sa tante Naomi et proviennent de Benares. Barbara habitait une maison en rondins que ses parents avaient reçu de ses grands-parents. La résidence se trouve au 1723 Birchwood Drive. Barbara maintient un lien avec Benares et habite aujourd'hui avec sa fille à Kelowna, Colombie-Britannique. |
