| Description : | This artefact is a hard wood dining table. The table is mid brown in colour with a polished finish. The table top is composed of two sections that have been made by laminating wood boards together along their edge. The table has three leafs of varying sizes that can be placed in the table top to obtain a desired length. The top is skirted along its bottom edge by a simple carved moulding that gives the table top some depth. Under the table there is an attached leaf that can be pulled out to give the table further length. The table top rests on four carved pillars. The pillars are attaches to a solid base, effectively making the table a two legged table. The table rests on casters. |
| Commentaires : | The Job Brothers firm was one of Newfoundland`s oldest and successful mercantile businesses. It evolved from a business that was located on the south side of St. John`s in 1750. By 1839 the name of Job Brothers Co. Ltd was adopted. The company was heavily involved in the purchasing and exporting of fish from Newfoundland, as well as importing goods for the local market. The company expanded their interests to a number of other areas which included the building of ships building and establishment of factories. |
