Description : | This artefact is a cup and saucer set of German china. The china is white in colour with heavy silver decoration that encompasses much of the mug. The top and bottom edge of the mug have a thick silver boarder running the entire length. The boarder is of a flower motif with tendrils that extend through the center of the cup that end in terminals composed of a single flower. The silver from the top boarder covers the lip of the cup and extends down the inside forming a thick solid band. The center of each mug, opposite the handle, contains silver gothic script. Each mug bears a separate inscription. One mug reads "Der Silberbraut," the silver bride, while the other reads "Dem Silberbrautigam," the silver groom. Adjacent to the script and surrounded by the floral design that extends from the boarder is a silver diamond with the number 25 in its center. The bottom of the mug contains the maker's mark which is composed of what appears to be a tent flanked by the initials K and P. Under the tent is printed SYLESIA. In addition to the maker's mark are a set of silver numbers printed in the same paint as the main design. The first line of numbers read 238. Below that line is printed 29. The cup narrows from top to bottom. This narrowed bottom fits into the circular depression in the saucer. The saucer is slightly convex with scalloped edging. The edge of the saucer has been painted with a similar silver floral design. |
