Description : The piggin consists of a series of wooden planks wrapped around a cylindrical base. Two iron bands hold the planks in place. A wooden handle is attached to one of the planks at the rim of the barrel.
Commentaires : A piggin is a pail " generally made of wood " used to bail bilge water from boats. Bilge water collected in the dell: a small well hole in the floor of the boat. This piggin was likely manufactured in Winterton by a local cooper, and would have been amongst the smallest barrels he made.
Fonctions : This piggin was used by Marcus French of Winterton to bail bilge water from his boat in the mid-twentieth century.
