Description : The sinker consists of a cylindrical piece of metal " likely lead " to which is attached two strings, one at each extremity. There are scratches on the surface of the metal.
Commentaires : A sinker, usually made out of a heavy material such as lead, was added to a handline when fishing with a baited hook. The weight ensured that the hook would sink deep into the water and not drag behind the boat.
Fonctions : This sinker would have been used in the Winterton cod fishery in the mid-twentieth century.
