Description : The artifacts consist of long, metal blades that come to a spiral at the front ends. The blades are attached to a wooden platform. There are rope and leather straps wrapped around the platform with loose ends for lashing to shoes or boots.
Commentaires : Ice skating has been a popular winter sport and mode of transportation for thousands of years. Although it has been used for that long, the advent of the double bladed metal skate did not come around until the late nineteenth century. These skates had the blades sharpened on both sides which made the wearer more able to propel themselves without the use and balance aid of a pole.
