Description : | It is a sepia toned photograph depicting the bridge of a ship. The photograph contains one man on the steering wheel of the ship as well as various pieces of machinery used to control the ship. The caption on the back of the photograph reads "View of bridge on M.V. William Carson. |
Commentaires : | The M.V. William Carson was an icebreaker ferry designed for travel between Port-Aux-Basques, NL and North Sydney, NS. It was constructed by Canadian Vickers Ltd out of Montreal and owned by the Canadian National Railways. The ship was commissioned in 1955. It was forced to use the Argentia port for the first three years of its operation while Port-Aux-Basques redesigned their docking stations to accommodate her massive size. In 1976, she was recomissioned to seasonal Labrador service operating between Lewisporte and Happy Valley-Goose Bay. |
