Description : This is a metal box with a hinged cover on the top. The sides of the lower section of the box are vertical while the hinged cover is roughly conical narrowing to a flat surface on top where a handle is attached. The outer surface of the hat box is a purple color.
Commentaires : This hat box belonged to Lieutenant Colonel (later Brigadier) Frank Bunting Black. He was an officer of the 8th Canadian Hussars who rose to high rank during the First World War. When the Canadian Army formed two brigades of cavalry in early 1915, Black was appointed to be the Brigade Major (Chief of Staff) of the 2nd Canadian Mounted Rifle Brigade. Black served as a Member of Parliament and later as a Senator from 1921 until his death in 1945. He was also appointed to be the first Honorary Colonel of the 8th Canadian Hussars between 1928 and 1941.
Fonctions : This was used by Frank Bunting Black when he was a staff officer in World War I.
Étiquette ou poinçon : On the front of the cover is a brass metal plaque inscribed "Lt. Col FB Black 2nd C.M.R Brigade" which is the name and position of the owner.
