Description : Officer cavalry sword. Primarily silver in colour, attached to Domville left side in display. Covered with brass scabbard.
Commentaires : Lt-Col James Domville was born in Belize, Honduras on November 29th, 1842. He migrated to New Brunswick in 1860 at the age of 18 and he joined the militia in 1866. From there his talents and energy took him into three major fields which were business, politics and military.  Domville commanded the 8th Princess Louises New Brunswick Hussars for 19 years and it was the longest term any C.O ever had. It was the best cavalry regiment in Canada.  He was a Conservative member of Parliament for Kings from 1872-1882 and he fought against his partys policies. He split from John A McDonald and then was re-elected MP for the area as a Liberal from 1896-1900. Domville was appointed to the senate by Wilfred Laurier in 1903 and he served until his death in Rothesay on July 30th, 1921 at the age of 78. He was part of the development of the AlbertCounty oil fields and during the Klondike gold rush he financed a steam ship to run the Yukon River. On July 1, Dominion Day, the Governor General was in Sussex to celebrate Canadas 14th birthday and there were 3000 other soldiers and 4000 citizens and he wore this uniform.
Fonctions : This artifact is a part of a full uniform designed and worn by James Domville over 140 years ago.
