Description : This book has a blue-grey hard cover. The title is printed in gold-coloured lettering on the front cover. The N of Nursing in the title has a more elaborate letter than the rest of the title.
Commentaires : The first edition of this book was published in 1907. This is the fourth edition, which has 949 pages divided into 23 chapters. The chapters include: Care of the Ward and its Furnishings, Moving Lifting and Carrying Patients, Temperature Pulse and Respiration, Medication - Bandaging etc, Intubation, Tracheotomy, Artificial Respiration. It also includes a section on massage. This book has black and white photographs and diagrams of properly making a bed, inserting a catheter, bandaging various body parts etc. Anna Caroline Maxwell, co-author of this book, was born in Bristol, New York in 1851. She spent her childhood in Canada, but returned to the United States in 1874, where she studied at the Boston City Hospital Training School for Nurses, completing her diploma in 1880. She organized a new training school for nurses at the Presbyterian Hospital in New York City, increasing the topics traditionally covered, and eventually expanding the program from a two year course to a five year degree program. Anna Caroline Maxwell also helped establish numerous nursing organizations, including The American Society of Superintendents of Training Schools for Nurses, the International Council of Nurses, and the American Red Cross Nursing Service. She also helped found the American Journal of Nursing. During the Spanish-American War, she organized nursing services at field hospitals, and also helped prepare nurses for service during the First World War. She passed away in 1929.
