Description : Wooden framed print of giantess Anna Swan posing in her Wedding Dress.
Commentaires : Anna Swan was born August 4, 1846 in Mill Brook, Nova Scotia. Anna grew quite rapidly and by the time she was twenty-two years old she weighed 352 pounds (160kg) and was 7 feet 6 inches (228 cm) tall. Anna because of her gigantism travelled around the world as she attracted large crowds. On one of these tours to Europe Anna met Martin Van Buren Bates a man who was 7 foot 9 inches tall nicknamed the Kentucky Giant. On April 22, 1871 after spending a large amount of time with one another Anna and Martin announced their engagement. On June 17, 1871 Anna and Martin were married at the church of St. Martin-In-The-Fields Church in Trafalgars Square. Members of the wedding party included people they had become friends with on tour including the Two Headed Nightingale (Siamese Twins). Annas bridesmaids were Mrs. Dr. Buckland and Mlle. Augustine. Martins best man was Henry Lee (the scientific editor of Land and Water. The Reverend for the wedding was Rupert Cochrane who was a native of Halifax. Martin wore a well-cut dress suit and a gold watch that was given to him by Queen Victoria. Annas gown was a white satin dress covered in orange blossoms. Anna was also wearing a diamond broach that was given to her by Martin and a diamond cluster from Queen Victoria. After their wedding Anna and Martin travelled to Seville to their custom house. The house was built with 14 foot ceilings and 8 and a half foot high doors to accommodate both of their sizes. On August 5, 1888 just one day after her 42nd birthday Anna died of an unexpected heart failure after years of struggling with a thyroid goitre.
Fonctions : The picture is of Anna Swan on her wedding day. The picture is a record of her wedding dress and a reminder of the happiest day of Anna Swans life when she married Martin Van Buren Bates.
