Commentaires : | Dr. Fuad Hanna, the donor of the painting was the son of an Egyptian diplomat stationed in Washington DC. He remained in the USA for his education after his father returned to Egypt. Just before he was to enroll in medical school he returned to Egypt to see his family in Assiut (upper Egypt) A large banquet was organized in his honour, at which time the Bishop of Assiut offered him this painting. The Bishop explained the source and said that it would always "protect" him. When Dr. Fuad Hanna who at the time was living in Florida, USA was about 90 years old he & his wife (an artist by profession) called Fr. Marcos to inform him that they were trying to give away some of their valued belongings & wondered whether St. Mark's Coptic Orthodox Church, Scarborough would be interested in the painting. The painting was offered as a gift to St. Marik's Coptic Orthodox Church. Dr. Fuad passed on a few months later. We continue to research about the artist & the symbolism of the three crosses with eagle heads above them. Documents on the artist & the artifact may be found in the Museum files & the Interpreters' Manual section on CROSSES. |
