Description : | The sled has a back rest with three wooden support beams attached to the seat board. The remaining four wooden support beams attach the back rest horseshoe to two horizontal arm rests. There are two bolts connecting the seat rest to the metal joints or rivets designed to attach the object to a rope or other unknown extension to pull the object along a desired course. |
Commentaires : | This object belonged to Steven McCarthy and was purchased at a commercial store in the town of Nelson (Miramichi) for recreational use by his children in the late 1940s. The sled was used by two (2) generations of the McCarthy family to cart either a newborn (Baby) or a young child usually during the winter season. The sled was also loaned to a number of the older families in the Nelson-Miramichi community. It was donated by Timothy McCarthy, Steven McCarthy's son. The object is an example of early to mid 20th Century wood working/commercial carpentry designed for recreational use. |
