| Description : | Items are a set of bookends that are shaped like the liberty bell in Philadelphia. They are made of entirely cast iron and each half of the bell comes together to form the entire bell. Each half has the famous liberty bell crack. The actual design is identical on both sides. The design is a bell being suspended by tow columns or posts with the bell attached on some sort of overhead beam. |
| Commentaires : | This set of bookends was donated to us by Charlie Trenholm who was a moulder at the Enterprise foundry. He told us that the foundry never actually ever made something like this and that it was the independent work of one of the moulders. He informed us that they must have brought a bookend in with them, and used it as a pattern, and then made two of these out of iron during their time on the clock, which charles informs us was not that uncommon. However, the employee who made this would have not been paid for it, and would have cut into his time making other pieces. |
