| Description : | Wooden leather template. Made out of an entire cylindrical portion of a tree trunk. Three thick pieces of black (although very faded) leather have been nailed down on end of the mold. On the other end, a very deep and smooth gouge has been carved out of the wood. Resting in this gouge is a curved piece of iron, which is not attached to the rest of the mold. |
| Commentaires : | Used at the Sackville Harness Shop. Used at the Sackville Harness Shop. Founded in 1919, the Sackville Harness Shop handmade a variety of quality leather goods before its closure in May 2021 with the retirement of its longtime owner and leather craftsman Bill Long. The harness shop was famous for its harnesses, along with its straw-stuffed horse collars. In later years, the shop branched into making other leather goods such as belts, bags, and boots. |
| Fonctions : | This piece is a template / mold for leatherworking. A wet piece of leather would be fitted into the gouge in the wood and secured with a press. The iron ring would then be pressed down into the leather in order to make a groove. This mold was used to make collar tops. |
