Description : The trophy is made from silver. It consists of a long, narrow cup. Two silver handles are attached at the rim of the cup, and extend to its base. At the bottom of the cup is a circular, silver base. The manufacturer of the trophy " F.P. Baker and Co. LTD " is engraved on the bottom, while the event, date and presenter are engraved on its side: "St. John's Regatta 1926, Presented by His Excellency Sir William Allardyce KCME.
Commentaires : Boat races are known to have taken place on Quidi Vidi Lake in St. John's as early as 1816 " and were likely held before this date " but the first official St. John's Regatta dates from 1826. The event is renowned as the oldest annual sporting event in North America. The community of Outer Cove was well known for its rowers in the early decades of the twentieth century. A Regatta record set by an Outer Cove crew in 1901 stood until 1981. In 1926, a crew from Outer Cove was again victorious. This trophy was presented to them by the Governor of Newfoundland, Sir William Lamond Allardyce.
Fonctions : This trophy was presented by Sir William Allardyce to a team of Outer Cove fishermen for winning the 1926 Royal St. John's Regatta.
