Description : | The gripper is composed of a long cylindrical stick of wood that tapers to a point at one end. On the pointed end a flat piece of iron has been nailed to the surface. Halfway up the wooden shaft is a metal band that is nailed into the wood. Extending off of this band is a metal arm that sticks out at a 45 degree angle. The end of the arm bends at 90 degrees forming a pincer-like extension. This arm is mobile and can open wide to grasp objects. The flat iron piece that was nailed to the end of the shaft acts as a backing, where the arm will close against this metal piece, protecting the wood from damage. At the other end of the shaft there is a piece of twine that has been looped through a hole drilled in the wood. |
Fonctions : | The gripper was used to pull steamed logs and planks out of the hot steamer. |
