Description : | The photograph is a black and white image of a 2 masted schooner the "Cardenia". The schooner is listing badly to one side as it has run aground on the rocky shoreline. The photo shows the boat in rough seas that are pounding upon the rocks surrounding the trapped vessel. |
Commentaires : | In August 1911, the 100 ton schooner "Cardenia" was bound from North Sidney to an unknown eastern Newfoundland port with a load of soft coal. The schooner ran into a fog bank off of Lamaline and her course was altered. The schooner ran ashore at Penny's Rock, west of Lamaline. Two nights later, a very heavy wind storm from the southwest, accompanied by gigantic seas, reduced the Cardenia to splinters in a couple of hours. |
