| Description : | c. 1861. A spirit level which is a block of hardwood with a glass tube containing spirit, set into the top centre of the block and covered by three brass plates each with a notch to see the tube. Nine screws hold the top plate and on it is stamped 'DISSTON & MORSS' 'KEYSTONE TOOL WORKS' 'PHILADA' 'PATD APRIL 25 1871'. Near one end of the block is a large hole with a brass cylinder held in by a small brass plate, but there is no glass tube left in it. At each end of the block is a brass plate held by two screws each. The wood has a patina and the brass is tarnished. |
