Description : | A small circular dark green tinted soda-lime (soda) glass two-piece (with separate base) metal mould (moulded glassware) beer bottle. The undersurface of the artifact's base exhibits a circular shallow concave basal profile, upon which 'F 310', 'S', '1', and 'UCB' all appear in embossed print lettering. From the rounded heel, the body portion of the artifact rises vertically to a champagne shoulder form. From here, a tapered neck-finish area extends upward to a crown finish that has a circular bore. Affixed to the body area of the item are a total of two oval shaped paper labels. The first of these two labels is light brown in colour, and upon it 'GUINNESS'S FOREIGN EXTRA STOUT' appears in black print lettering. The second label is multi-coloured, and upon it appears a yellow and black image of the head of a bulldog. Finally, a blue and white paper label has been affixed to the shoulder area of the item, and upon it, 'DOG'S HEAD 'NIP' appears in white print lettering. Note: Green colouration is due to the presence of either copper, copper oxide, chromium or iron in the silicate. The crown finish was invented in 1891 by William Painter. U.S. patent 1892.PH1 2006 |
