Description : Figured satin shading from pink to cerise. The short fitted bodice is boned. The back is cut in 7 small sections. The centre panel is a deep V made of pleated ninon and matches the centre front. The square neck, the front and waist line are edge with black velvet ribbon. The three quarter length sleeves and the side front bodice are trimmed with a n overlay of Battenberg lace. The sleeves have a deep curved cut at the underarm seam, and are faced with white satin. The bodice is lined with white twill. The sleeves have the same lining. The gored skirt is 101.5 cm at the front and 137 cm at the centre back. The underskirt is made of white cotton twill and is faced with satin 45.5 cm up from the hem. There is also an interfacing of buckram 23 cm from the hem. The buckram at the hem is covered with a layer of wool. The overskirt is trimmed with 5.5 cm of fine ninon braid. The overskirt has two points; one at the centre front and one at the side back. It is closed at the side front with hooks and eyes. Condition: The dress is worn. The bodice has been altered. October 1986 - restoration work totaled 50 hours. Worn parts of lower hem edge couched to new self fabric; sleeves on bodice couched to new fabric; several areas on front and back of bodice, lower fold of attached cummberbund rep;aced by new fabric which was given with the dress.
