Service, Tea
Nom de l'objet : | Service, Tea |
Numéro d'accession : | 1973.1.105 |
Description : | A small white china tea set with gold accents. The set includes: a teapot, a creamer, a sugar bowl, three cups, four saucers and two bread plates. |
Fonctions : | Tea and the occasion of afternoon tea has had many rules of etiquette over the years. In Edwardian times, it was custom for men to pour their tea into the saucer, thereby allowing it to cool down before drinking it. Contrary to popular belief, when drinking tea, if one were to jut out their pinkie, it was considered very rude and arrogant. During Victorian times, most tea was kept under lock and key, especially green tea, as it was very costly; only the wife of the house would have access to it. This might explain the small stature of this tea set as it would make the expensive tea go further in its smaller cups. |
