Description : A birch bark basket with willow lacing and a hide strap. A band of birch bark with a scalloped edged is attached at the rim and covers the circumference of the basket.
Fonctions : Birch bark baskets were used by First Nations in a range of different functions from storage devices to carrying cases to cooking pots. Used as a cooking pot, the basket would be sealed with spruce gum and then filled with water. Bringing the water to a boil could be done in two ways; either over a flame or by adding hot stones.
