Description : A bamboo slide rule covered in white celluloid with blue and red numbers and lines used to help with calculations. On one side the scales are LL/1, LL/2, LL/3 and LL1, LL2, LL3 which all stand for log log scale and are exponential power scales. There are also T (scale of tangents and co-tangents), ST (scale of sines and tangents), S (scale of sines and co-sines), C and D (both fundamental slide rule scale). On the reverse side, the scales are LL/0 (log log scale), K (scale of cubes), DF (folded D scale), CF (folded C scale), CIF (reciprocal folded C scale), CI (reciprocal C scale), C and D (both fundamental slide rule scale), R1 and R2 (both scale of square roots) and L (log scale). Wrapping around the rule and thus, sliding across both sides is a glass magnifier framed in metal with a thin vertical red line used to denote the calculations. At the top of the rule in red lettering it reads, "The Hughes Owens Co. Limited No. 1777," and in blue lettering, "Sun Hemmi C G". The rectangular mahogany-coloured leather case is lined with green velvet.
Fonctions : The slide rule is a manual calculating device and was used by James Quong, an engineer who designed and built the Nisutlin Bay Bridge on the Alaska Highway. The Nisutlin Bay Bridge is the longest bridge on the Alaska Highway (1916 feet) with two lanes and is located in Teslin, Yukon.
