Description : The Shooting of Dan McGrew, 2004 by Shane Wilson. Mammoth Ivory, mahogany and one gold nugget in plexiglass casing with etching to represent architectual features such as doors and the words "Malamute Saloon".
Fonctions : This sculpture was commissioned by MP Larry Bagnell to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the arrival of Robert Service in the Yukon. Mr. Bagnell wanted a three dimensional interpretation of "The Shooting of Dan McGrew" as penned by Service. The piece reflects the merging of art and poetry created by artist Shane Wilson and Duane Cull. The two used their combined talents along with mammoth ivory and mahogany to recreate the scene. The saloon was crafted by Jim Routzahn, who salvaged the mahogany from the White Pass and Yukon Route. The wood was once used on their trains. Ceilidh Wilson, Miranda Atwood, Jack Bowers and Wayne Towriss all contributed to the project. This truly unique piece of art had been gratefully loaned to MacBride Museum by the Honourable Larry Bagnell.
