| Commentaires : | Squamish elders recently noted that they had seen this hat at the West Vancouver Museum while it was on exhibit there, and had recognised it as one that had been worn by Haksten (Harriet Johnny) in a Coast Salish film that Harlan Smith made (film is now at the Canadian Museum of Civilization). Portions of the film are currently exhibited at the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre. |
| Fonctions : | Dome-shaped double woven hats, like this one, were worn as rain gear. A hat band inside the hat was used to fit the hat to the crown of the head, and to keep the sides of the hat away from the wearer's head - thereby creating an effective rain barrier. |
