Description : Black Spear train car heater, original front-loading stove found in White Pass passengers cars, with ornate pressed designs in the metal, three hinged doors for loading and cleaning.
Fonctions : This heater was located on a passenger train for the White Pass and Yukon Route that traveled between Whitehorse, Yukon and Skagway, Alaska. The wood stove was designed with grates at the sides and top of the furnace. The grates allowed oxygen in to fuel the fire but also served as the important function of temperature control and catching fly ash. Wood would have been piled by the furnace so that passengers or White Pass and Yukon Route employees could stoke the fire when needed. This model was made by the Black Spear Company in Philadelphia Pennsylvania.
