- Résumé
- This study analyzes artists' attitudes towards art preservation and conservation in the creation and maintenace of their works of art, and addresses the feasibility of developing information and education services in this area. In particular, this study examines (a) if artists believe that works of art will deteriorate, (b) artists' knowledge of art preservation, (c) where they acquired this information, (d) if existing information is adequate, (e) if artists would like to receive more information, (f) who should be responsible for providing it, and (g) who should be responsible for a prematurely deteriorating work of art.
- Artists' perceptions and needs were assessed by means of a survey which was administered to some 330 Albertan artists represented in the collection of the Alberta Art Foundation; a further forty-five questionnaires were sent to art educators at colleges and universities throughout the province. In addition, the literature was reviewed and twenty-seven interviews were conducted with experts from across Canada. All of this information was then analyzed and synthesized, and a series of final recommendations were made.
