Résumé
This study assesses the impact of storage environments on the colour transfer of felt-tipped pen medium on paper. The felt-tipped pen, generically known as the porous pointed pen, is an unstable artist's medium. This problematic dye-based medium not only fades, but colour transfers onto adjacent paper surfaces. This study evaluates the colour difference values of the colour transfer from three colours in five storage conditions. The experimental data was gathered from initial and final colorimeter readings using the CIE L*a*b* (1976) system. The obvious hypothesis that storage conditions of high humidity and high temperature would promote colour transfer was partially verified. The results indicated that it was high temperatures that promoted colour transfer and that high humidity was not a significant factor in the colour transfer of the medium.
