- This research project explored various writing implements in the search for a good labelling device for resin-coated photographs. These implements included Archival Ballpoint Pen, Stabilo Write-4-All, Sanford Sharpie, Itoya Finepoint System, Staedtler Pigment Liner, Sakura Pigma Micron, ZIG Memory System Millenium, Light Impressions No. 2631 Film/Print Marking Pen, Kaiser-Schreiber Film Marking Pen, and 4B pencil. Testing of these ten implements included evaluating reactivity to simulated flood conditions. Photograph samples with writing in each of the ten implements underwent 24-hour immersion in tap water. As well, solubility in various solvents was tested with paper chromatography and swabbing with solvents or using an eraser tested the reversibility of the media. The final test involved determining the lightfastness after exposure to UV lights. The changes were measured by a Macbeth colorimeter.
