Résumé
Conservation thesis on the problems of the refixing and consolidation of the paint layer of canvas and panel paintings. The first part discusses the types of deterioration which may be caused by the strength and constraints inherent in the painting: deterioration of the cohesions of the sizing, deterioration of the paint layer, loss of adhesion to the substrate. The behaviour of some products during the treatment is then examined. Three adhesives were choosen: polyvinyl alcohol (Rhodoviol 4/125), polyvinyl acetate emulsion (Ponal Express), methylacrylate and ethylmethacrylate copolymer (Paraloid B72). The physical characteristics of the substrate, the penetration of the adhesive and the shrinkage of the adhesive film during the drying were studied. The last part of the thesis presents a survey of the general properties required for the adhesives according to the various kinds of deterioration.
