The freezing of wool occurs frequently in a museum setting. We will look at the uses to kill insects, preservation for later treatment, freeze drying etc. Consideration is given in this research to the possible damage by ice crystals in freeze-thaw cycles.

This paper looks at issues associated with the ageing of BCF nylon yarns during production and conversion and attempts to deal with the changes in carpeting that are so often real but difficult to quantify.

A Preliminary Investigation of the Tensile Properties of Yarn Used for Textile Conservation,
Shirley Ellis (Departrnent of Human Ecology, University of Alberta) :

A discussion and analysis of silk and polyester as the two threads of choice for the stabilization of costumes and textiles. Choosing the correct thread will help avoid further treatment at a later date.

The Effect of Light Ageing on Selected Properties of Silk Adhered to Sheer Polyester and Silk Backing,
Irene F. Karsten (Departrnent of Hurnan Ecology, University of Alberta) :

An assessment of light ageing on silk and the interactions between adhesives, backing and stabilization threads in a degradation scenario. Testwork was done using Xenon arc radiatio in Atlas Weatherometer and the results will be discussed.
