Résumé
Because they are easily reversible and not damaging to paper objects, waterbased wheat and rice starch pastes are preferred for adhering hinges to paper objects and for attaching them to the mat supports. Conservators, however, use acrylic dispersions as heat-setting adhesives when paper objects are resistant to aqueous adhesives, are highly responsive to moisture or are easily stained when in contact with water based adhesives. The intent of this research project is to examine the acceptability and the security of the acrylic dispersions Lascaux 360HV and Rhoplex AC234 as heat-setting adhesives `or hinging paper objects. By testing the reversibility and the presence of acidic emissions from the acrylic dispersions Lascaux 360HV and Rhoplex AC234, it is hoped that useful information can be gained to determine if their use is not damaging to paper objects.
