Résumé
Looked at two proprietary varnishes marketed by manufacturers for use on acrylic emulsion paint films and observed the ageing characteristics of these coatings as well as the visual and morphological effects of the subsequent varnish removal on the underlying paint. The products examined were Soluvar® Gloss Varnish by Liquitex® and Golden MSA® Gloss Varnish. Both varnishes were tested on their own and as applied over acrylic emulsion paint strips corresponding to the same paint manufacturer (for example, Soluvar® on Liquitex acrylic emulsion paint).
