Résumé
This project was concerned with finding solutions to the problem of conserving patterned textiles with areas of loss. As support fabrics dyed to one uniform colour often do not camouflage these areas satisfactorily, methods for the localised application of colour to support fabrics were investigated. In particular, commercially available fabric paints, silk screen printing and digital imaging were examined for their suitability for re-creating the pattern of the object on support fabrics and semitransparent overlays. Leading on from this, the potential of digital imaging for creating reproduction fabrics was also explored.
