- Provides a set of frameworks to investigate the complexities of communication in museums. Using wide range of examples it demonstrates that all communication needs to be understood in relation to its social context. Importantly, it argues that communication is an active process of meaning-making, and in this way communication issues can be seen to lie at the heart of institutional practices, contributing in fundamental ways to what a museum is, who it relates to, and what it stands for.
