Résumé
Research was carried out in order to determine the painting techniques that the Aztecs used to create their wall paintings at the Great Temple of Tenochtitlan in Mexico City, including the identification of the blue and other components. Preliminary research of air pollution as a cause of decay of the wall paintings was also carried out. Fifty-four samples were taken from all the buildings with wall paintings. The analysis of this large number of samples provided information about the different painting techniques that were employed at the archaeological site. At the same time, synthetic samples were fabricated in order to observe the characteristics obtained when using different painting techniques and compare them with the observations of the historical samples.
