- Résumé
- A combined technical and art historical evaluation of the pigments and the underdrawings found in a small panel by Jacob Comelisz van Oostsanen entitled Jesus Taking Leave of His Mother. The panel was bequest in 1944 to the Agnes Etherington Art Centre in Kingston Ontario. The study situates the Agnes panel within the framework of early Netherlandish painters and connects this panel to other panels attributed to J. Cornelisz. in other museums. Comparative work provides technical evidence suggesting that the Agnes panel is similar in both style and technique with Cornelisz.'s oeuvre. By investigating the nature of the underdrawing found in the panel, the graphic style of the artist can be compared to a woodcut by the artist depicting the same subject matter. A system was developed to achieve a highquality infrared reflectogram using a vidicon attached to a monitor. The infrared reflectogram was compared with the infrared photograph to observe the advantages and limitations of both imaging systems.
