- Résumé
- The first step in a conservation treatment is always to determine as much information as possible about that object. This information guides the conservator to devise a treatment accordingly. Paintings have undergone many conservation treatments and technical examinations; however, these data are often detached from the painting and consequently lost. This information can and should be incorporated into a database where it will be available to a future conservator. The proposed research covers a model plan for the combination of digital images, technical examination, treatment records, and collection databases using a web-based interface. The treatment documentation of the 17th Century Netherlandish oil painting, Granida and Daifilo, by Jacob Backer, belonging to the Agnes Etherington Art Centre in Kingston, Ontario as well as three other treatments carried out over here provide a model that can be followed by museum personnel.
