Résumé
Research concerning contemporary varnishes for conservation use primarily began in the 1950's by Robert L. Feller. He recognized that industrial additives might be beneficial for conservation applications. Through his research conservation began to study and incorporate additives. This included stabilizers into coatings such as varnishes. By the 1980's, there was a surge of published research which incorporated industrial additives such as ultraviolet absorbers (UVAs) and hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS) to inhibit the process of degradation that a varnish undergoes when exposed to photoxidative and thermal agents of deterioration. The scope of this research project is to perform comparative studies of HALS Tinuving 292 and UVA Tinuving 327 to the relatively new products of HALS, Tinuving 123, and UVA, Tinuving 384. Samples was aged by natural sunlight through an unfiltered window, by use of UVA-351 fluorescent lamps, and by dark aging.
