Résumé
Kugaluk is a small historic Inuit site located near the outlet of the Eskimo Lakes in the western Canadian Arctic. From its location, it can be attributed to the Nuvorugmiut, one of the five branches of the historic Mackenzie Inuit. At contact the largest Inuit group in the Canadian Arctic, the culture and society was almost entirely obliterated over the past 50 years. This paper describes the Nuvorugmiut and the changes in their economy after contact; the excavation and structure of the Kugaluk site; the artifacts found; faunal diversity and seasonality; and the structure of the caribou bone assemblage.
