Résumé
The scientific analysis of the risk to a mixed collection due to climate fluctuations or light is laborious, uncertain and not feasible during practical risk assessments. Simplified rules for analysis of entire collections based on local history are very useful, if they can be derived. The concept of proofed fluctuation has proved particularly efficient for assessing risk from climate fluctuations, and is explained in detail here. A search for a general rule for light risk was undertaken by calculating the sum of fading across a distribution in sensitivities between ISO Blue Wool Standards 1 and 8, for a range of both past and future exposures. A useful generalization does emerge for risk analysis in terms of historic exposure.
