- Ce mémoire de fin d’études en spécialité Sculpture a pour objet la conservation-restauration de deux éléments gallo-romains provenant du Grand-Théâtre de Vendeuil-Caply (Oise, France). Tous deux ont été découverts dans les années 70, lors des premières campagnes de fouilles sur ce site archéologique de grande dimension. Le premier, un autel cultuel orné de bas-relief en craie, a été retrouvé en cinq fragments (dont un aujourd’hui disparu) et remonté une première fois en 1973. Sa restauration a essentiellement consisté en une dérestauration des comblements et badigeon de plâtre puis à son remontage et nettoyage, ainsi qu’à la mise en place de nouveaux comblements. Le second objet est une niche de sacellum, également constitué de craie et formé de quatre blocs comportant de la polychromie. Très altéré et lacunaire, la niche a fait l’objet d’une restauration fondamentale et la perte de deux des blocs constitutifs nous a amenés à travailler sur l’utilisation des photographies d’archives en photogrammétrie, afin de procéder à la restitution en taille réelle des éléments manquants.
- This dissertation in Sculpture specialty deals with the conservation-restoration of two Gallo-roman elements from the Grand-Theater of Vendeuil-Caply (Oise, France). Both were discovered in the 1970s during the first excavation campaigns on this large archeological site. The first is a cultual altar made of chalk and decorated with bas-relief. It was found in five fragments (one of which has disappeared several years ago) and was first reassembled in 1973. Its restoration essentially consisted of a retrieval of the old fillings and plastering. We then had to reassembly all of it, clean the surfaces and set up new fillings. The second object is a niche from a sacellum. Also made of chalk and formed of four blocks with polychromia, it’s highly altered and incomplete. In fact, two of the four initial blocks were lost years ago and no one figured it out before the beginning of this work. The niche has been the subject of a fundamental restoration and the loss of the two blocks led us to work on the use of old photographs in photogrammetry, in order to proceed with restitution in real size of the missing parts. A partnership with a 3D concrete printer society finally made the restitution possible.
