- Le travail de fin d’études a été effectué sur une peinture du Musée de Rouen, signée et datée « Gabriel de Saint-Aubin, 1752 », peinte probablement à l’huile sur toile anciennement rentoilée.
- Le mauvais état de conservation du rentoilage, les problèmes de soulèvements de la couche picturale et la fragilité de la toile originale ont motivé notre intervention.
- La colle de peau a été utilisée pour un refixage généralisé de la couche picturale par le revers. Ce matériau déjà présent dans les éléments constitutifs de l’œuvre a été préféré à une colle synthétique ou à la cire.
- La consolidation du support de toile a été assurée par la reprise du rentoilage à la colle de pâte. Ces deux méthodes aqueuses ont permis une bonne résorption des déformations de la couche picturale.
- Le tableau a été remis dans un format rectangulaire classique par la pose d’incrustation de toile sur certains bords sans pour autant répondre au problème de format de cette peinture qui a perdu ses bords originaux.
- Le travail sur la couche picturale a consisté en l’allègement prononcé du vernis, en l’élimination des mastics et surpeints anciens et en la réintégration illusionniste après masticage des accidents, pertes de matières et incrustations de toile.
- Une recherche sur la protection des peintures sur toile au revers a été menée parallèlement à ce travail.
- The end of studies work was done on a painting from the Museum of Rouen, signed and dated "Gabriel de Saint-Aubin, 1752", probably painted in oil on canvas formerly lined.
- The poor state of conservation of the linings, the problems of lifting the pictorial layer and the fragility of the original canvas motivated our intervention.
- The skin glue was used for a general re-fixing of the pictorial layer by the back. This material already present in the constituent elements of the work was preferred to a synthetic glue or wax.
- Consolidation of the canvas support was ensured by the resumption of the covering with paste adhesive. These two aqueous methods allowed good resorption of the deformations of the pictorial layer.
- The painting has been put back in a classic rectangular format by placing canvas inlay on certain edges without responding to the problem of format of this painting which has lost its original edges.
- The work on the pictorial layer consisted in the pronounced lightening of the varnish, in the elimination of old mastics and overpaintings and in the illusionist reintegration after puttying accidents, loss of materials and canvas inlays.
- Research on the protection of paintings on canvas on the reverse was carried out in parallel with this work.
