- Résumé
- The Oriel Microfade Tester (O-MFT) was used to test five sample sets of 19th century iron gall inks, with and without aqueous treatments, and after previous light exposure. The results showed that these inks belong in the category of BW1-3 which means they have ‘high light sensitivity’. There are very light sensitive components in the ink which can be partially removed by aqueous treatments resulting in lower sensitivity to light. In addition, calcium phytate reacts with some inks making them less light sensitive.
