- Résumé
- This study focuses on a small group of traditional green pigments and green mixtures as well as a selection of modern green pigments and mixtures whose spectral reflectance curves are obtained using the Macbeth Color-Eye Colorimeter. The historic pigments include malachite, verdigris, green earth, azurite, lead-tin yellow, ochre and lead white. These pigments were chosen because they seem to represent some of the most commonly occurring means of achieving greens in paintings before the 17th Century and because they are easily obtainable. The modern pigments are phthalo green, viridian, chrome oxide opaque, cobalt green, cadmium yellow light, medium and deep, cobalt yellow, nickel titanium yellow, mars yellow, manganese cerulean blue, phthalo blue, prussian blue and titanium white. From the spectral reflectance curves, it is hoped to determine the possibility for metamerism in these green pigments, where it is likely to pose a problem and how it can be avoided when retouching with modern pigments.
